Lima half day tour + San Francisco Catacombs

• Hotel Pick-up / Meeting Point:
  The tour begins with the pick-up of passengers from hotels located in the districts of Miraflores, San Isidro, Barranco, Downtown Lima, and Surco, or from the previously agreed meeting point.
• San Martín Square:
  Our first stop will be at San Martín Square, considered the second most important square in Downtown Lima. It was inaugurated in 1921 to commemorate the centenary of the Independence of Peru (1821). This urban space represents the modernization process the city experienced at the beginning of the 20th century, reflected in its layout, its wide spaces, and the surrounding republican architecture characterized by strong European influence.
• Main Square or Plaza de Armas:
  Continuing our tour, we will walk through Lima’s Main Square, the setting for some of the most significant events in the history of Peru. Considered the heart of the city, it is the place where Lima was founded and where, centuries later, the country’s independence was proclaimed.
• It is surrounded by emblematic historical monuments such as the Cathedral of Lima, the Government Palace, the Municipal Palace, and the Archbishop’s Palace, which reflect the political, religious, and architectural legacy of the capital.
• Colonial Balconies:
  Lima, a city marked by Moorish influence, holds the distinction of being the Peruvian capital and is characterized by a strong Andalusian influence, reinforced by the historic commercial monopoly between the Port of Callao in South America and the Port of Seville in Spain. During the colonial period, balconies represented the predominant urban architectural feature in Lima.
• San Francisco Convent and the Catacombs of Lima
  San Francisco is a jewel of Peruvian viceregal art. It was an important religious and academic training center built by the Franciscans in the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru. The Franciscans played a key role in the Spanish conquest, and their evangelizing work is now part of the masterpieces preserved in the museum.
• The San Francisco Catacombs reveal the deep religious beliefs of the people of Lima during the viceregal period. This place was considered the main cemetery of the city, and its crypts received numerous faithful members of religious brotherhoods and confraternities.
• End of Service: Return to your hotel or the previously agreed destination.
